Federal Grant Programs

Federal Pell Grant

Student must:

  • Have financial need.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Not already have a bachelor's or higher degree (unless enrolled in a post-bachelor's teacher certificate program).

Award:

  • Up to $5,350 per year.

Application:


Academic Competitiveness Grant

Student must:

  • Have financial need.
  • Be receiving a Pell Grant.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Be a full-time freshman or sophomore in college.
  • Have been enrolled in a rigorous high school program if a freshman.
  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA if a sophomore.
  • Not already have a bachelor's or higher degree.

Award:

  • Up to $750 per year for freshmen.
  • Up to $1,300 per year for sophomores.

Application:


SMART Grant

Student must:

  • Have financial need.
  • Be receiving a Pell Grant.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Be in the third or fourth year in college.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a four-year degree-granting college.
  • Be majoring in certain areas of math, science or foreign language.
  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA in his or her major.

Award:

  • Up to $4,000 per year.

Student must:

  • Have exceptional financial need.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Not already have a bachelor's or higher degree.
